DO YOU ACCEPT INSURANCE?
No, however, I do email a receipt after the visit that can be submitted to the insurance company for partial reimbursement. The amount is dependent on your out-of-network benefits. Patients have told me that the reimbursement ranges from 40-70% of the fee.
WHY DO PSYCHIATRISTS/PSYCHOLOGISTS NOT ACCEPT INSURANCE?
Over the past 10-20 years, insurance payments have declined. Therefore, the only way to maintain your income was to spend less time with each patient. So currently psychiatrists are only able to spend 5-15 minutes with each patient during a follow up visit which is not enough time to provide quality care. This is why most psychiatrists have decided to stop taking insurance. The cost is higher for the patient, however, this is to ensure that psychiatrists are able to take care of their patients properly.
WHAT IS THE AVERAGE COST OF A VISIT?
The initial evaluation is one hour with one of our mental health professionals and can range from $200 to $400. Follow up visits are typically 30 minutes and can range from $100 to $200.
WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT AT THE INITIAL EVALUATION?
Our Mental Health Professionals will talk with you about all of your concerns. We will ask questions to better understand you. We will also want to discuss your past medical history and past treatments including medication and therapy. Our team will then discuss the diagnosis and possible treatments. We spends a lot of time educating about the diagnosis and treatments including therapy, medications, and self-care (diet, exercise, sleep).
HOW FREQUENTLY DO I NEED TO SEE A PSYCHIATRIST?
On average, out team sees their patients once a month. Once the patient is doing well and not needing medication changes then the appointments can be spaced out to every 2 months and possible every 3 months after that.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A PSYCHOLOGIST AND A PSYCHIATRIST?
The training and type of treatments are the major differences. Psychologists/counselors/therapists perform therapy. Psychiatrists must complete medical school and are therefore able to prescribe medications as well as perform therapy.
